Editing Crunch Before Quest-Con

August 11, 2017 by: Douglas

In two months, (and one week), I’ll be driving down to Quest-Con in Mobile, Alabama! Even though I’ll be in cosplay a lot, helping out my guild Grievance, I also have a deadline to make.

I promised I’d have “Pilgrims with Blades” finished by that time. That deadline has been on my mind all summer as I’ve worked to complete it. Oh wait, what was that quote from Douglas Adams?

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
I am determined that will NOT happen here! I’ve been working hard with my editor, Denise Guibord, to hammer this story to its brightest polish! She came up with more suggestions than I predicted. (When do authors get to the point in which they write perfectly on the first draft?)

So, even though I may have released a few gameplay videos to my YouTube channel, I’ve done much less of games than anticipated because this book is my focus. The “story” section of “Pilgrims with Blades”, (not including title pages and appendices, etc) is only 110 pages long on a 6×9″ book format. It will be my shortest published work so far. It’s the start of a long-running series that I have planned, so it has to be impressive. People won’t hang around for a series if they don’t like the first book.

I think my readers will love what they see. Back to editing!
